There’s a lovely little robin who lives in the tree right where I park my car at home. It’s good to see him back there recently.

What an incredible video!
Not just creative, but think of the planning, the organisation and the sheer hard work! Wow!
Playing for Change

I’m a great Bob Harris fan. I love his Radio 2 show on a Saturday night. Last night he played three tracks from an album entitled Songs Around the World, from a project known as Playing for Change.
Here’s one of the three he played (I could have posted ANY of them!) This music is JOYOUS. Is there any better way to show how the paradox of difference and similarity is so characteristically human?
Helicopter movie

When I took a short walk yesterday I came across a helicopter practising taking water up from a lake and dropping it again as it’ll have to do when it fights forest fires.
I gathered the photos together in iphoto, made them into a slideshow, added some music by Max Richter and exported it as a movie.
Here it is. (I hope you agree the music fits the the photos really nicely)
John Martyn

John Martyn died today, aged 60. I could choose I don’t know how many songs to share to remember him but here is one of his most famous and best. I love this version. It’s from the Transatlantic Crossing series – so many wonderful performances in those programmes. Here he’s joined by Kathy Mattea, Danny Thompson and Jerry Douglas. This made me smile so much first time I saw it, and, damn now its got me smiling and crying at the same time!
Watch it right through to the very end. I just love the closing seconds.
Robert Burns – George Square, Glasgow

Glasgow City Council has made a great images and sound display to celebrate Robert Burns. They project images up onto the City Chambers in George Square and have a PA system playing a soundtrack to accompany them. I went along and filmed it with my Flip Ultra. Take a look. I think you’ll enjoy it. (The programme runs for 15 minutes)
Barack Obama’s Acceptance Speech

I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed, moved and inspired by a politician’s speech, than I am by this one.
His beliefs about the possibility of change, the importance of hope and the need for people to join together to act as adults really strike the right chord with me.

Oh I like this!
A lot!
Very Scottish, very Glasgow. Great wall of sound music. And such great lyrics (know any other songs about social workers?) –
I`ll be at your side to console
when your standing on the window ledge
I`ll talk you back from the edge
I will turn your tide
be your shepherd and your guide
when you’re lost in the deep and darkest place around
may my words walk you home safe and sound
when you say that I’m no good and you feel like walking
I need to make sure you know that’s just the prescription talking
when your feet decide to walk you on the wayward side
up upon the stairs and down the downward slide
I will turn your tide
do all that I can to heal you inside
I`ll be the angel on your shoulder
my name is geraldine, I’m your social worker
I see you need me
I know you do
Visual thinking

Look at this
This is a little drawing to illustrate the fact that there have been only 200 generations (each of about 25 years) since the beginning of recorded history right up to the present time. Isn’t that amazing? This grabbed me for two reasons. First, it really captures just how little time has passed since we began to record human history. That’s quite mind boggling (and humbling) in itself. But, secondly, it was the simplicity of the image which really caught my attention. I came across this on the digital roam blog…..that’s Dan Roam’s blog.
Dan Roam has written a book about using visual thinking and I think it looks GREAT. The book is called “Back of the Napkin”. Every day I draw simple little pictures for patients to help explain quite complex ideas like health, disease, healing, how to tackle allergies, and so on. Dan’s set up a web site to accompany his book. Go and check it out. He’s made a great little series of flash videos which I highly recommend. There are four of them (drawn on the back of a napkin!). Watch them all. It’ll only take a few minutes and I bet you’ll find it thought provoking about how we see and how we communicate with pictures.
This will make you smile. A BIG smile!

Oh sometimes somebody just does something simple but original with the internet.
I LOVE this video.
This is one of those videos to watch when you want to smile. It’s heart-warming and just plain JOYOUS
