I search for life in dread deathin fearful disease for health,
in dark prison for liberty,
escape in a sealed room,
in a traitor, loyalty.
But my own fate from whom
I ne’er hope for the good
has with just heaven ruled
if the impossible I demand,
for me the possible is banned.
Know where this quote comes from?
What do you think about it?
Faint hints of John Clare.
NOT even close, I see. But the antitheses, or rather paradoxes, are reminiscent of lines like Clare’s “free from the world I would a prisoner be,” etc.
Thank you for the reminder about John Clare, goetheana, I haven’t read any of his poems for years. But I’m going to again now! I really appreciate your suggestion.
You’re right, of course……….it’s not John Clare.
I have no idea. But I like this post idea.
Glad you like the post Sugar Mouse. Bear with me and I’ll reveal all later in the week. I want to see if anyone else fancies a guess…..
It comes From that great book about “That Extraordinary Man from La Mancha in Spain: Don Quixote” and penned by Cervantes
Congratulations Zofo!
You are right!!
Well, I can tell you it took a lot of patience for me to wait till someone came along and recognised this.
It’s a great quote from a great book, don’t you think?
