I caught this tiny snippet of an interview with Brian Eno on BBC Radio 4 this morning.
eno (click his name!)
The subject of the piece was his curating of the Luminous festival at Sydney Opera House.
Here is Eno arguing that not only do we need imagination more than ever now that we have hit these crises in the world, but the faculty of imagination is the faculty which separates us from all the other animals.
I agree. We need to use our imaginations if we are to come up with new, different ways to make the world a better place.

talking about imagination . I heard this on radio Scotland yesterday . its about Charles Jencks (who designed the Maggie cancer care centres). Charles is involved in an ambitious project on former open cast coal sites in Fife which aims to recreate maps of Scotland in the landscape . Its a huge project and aims to turn a desolate landscape into something visually and geographically interesting. I found it interesting as the project uses the old heaps of coal and makes them symbolic and ‘meaningful’ using the huge mining machinery. I found this combined approach –artist and industrial might to be an interesting idea as neither side could do the thing on their own.
Poverty of imagination seems to be a prevalent feature of many aspects of life and I think Eno is spot on so thanks for the link. Imagination leads to creativity and creative solutions . I loved Ken Robinsons thoughts on imagination and creativity ……..http://www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/sir_ken_robinson.html
At a more local level I find that in the chronic pain clinic people who can imagine –imagine doing something differently , imagine progress or even moving differently change and often ‘do well’ …at a ‘material’ level I am sure imagination coupled with activity is a catalyst for neuroplasticity in individuals. I think we need a pause to stimulate more imagination rather than jump into activity which seems the knee jerk reaction –whether this is to punish politicians ,sort the NHS out (impossible) or stimulate the economy ……

Great site with absolutely fantastic pictures! It is clear that your imagination is vibrant and beautiful.
I enjoyed this recent post on Imagination. As an Imagination Coach I couldn’t agree that the world needs to reclaim their imagination any more.
