How aware are you of the textures of the world you live in? I notice colour a lot and when I have my camera with me (which is ALWAYS) it’s often the colour of something which attracts me.
However I am also VERY aware of textures. I realise my favourite clothes are probably ALL my favourites primarily because of their textures (much more than their design or their colour)
What catches your attention on an everyday basis?
Colour? Shape? Texture? Scent? Sound?

I think it’s colour for me, actually. I have frequently bought clothes in the past because of the colour despite the fact that the texture wasn’t nice! Also looking through some of the photos that I’ve taken recently, like the pumpkin flower or the balloons, I notice that it’s colour that makes me want to take the photo. Though now that you’ve drawn attention to it, I may start looking out for texture!
this is an amazing photograph. I keep thinking that I’m looking at the bottom of the ocean with coral. So beautiful! (I’m glad you take your camera everywhere – you treat us all!) The oranges and greens are especially beautiful together here too.
Hmmm – does line count for attention grabber? I’m always caught up in the way lines in the environment create drawings everywhere. (maybe that’s categorized under shape). but it’s funny, I think I notice each category more whenever I’m working on a project that specializes in one or the other. Painting makes me notice color a lot more, and texture when I’m photographing…
Firstly, that’s an awesome image.
As far as attraction goes, i’d fall for all the above which would of course lead to subsequent visuals, sounds, smells, so forth — or the opposite, depending.
There’s never an order for me, never a specific preference or particular sensitivity. Something brings itself forth, and the rest follows. Whichever sense it taps, attention’s on call. And it’s a fantastic procedure.
Then i feel like God sorta gave me a big smackaroo right on the cheek.
lovely photos Amy – I like what you notice
Ester, I think that’s SUCH an interesting observation. As best I understand it the ability to see lines is a key characteristic of artists who draw. I’ve never drawn (since being told at school I was no good at it!) but I have a notion to try – your drawings are such an inspiration.
damewiggy, good to see you and I hope you get a lot more big smackaroos from God in the near future! You’re absolutely right of course. The various different senses come into play at different times and in different places. You know what? I think we can increase our sensual experiences by paying attention to them and seeking them out.
Thank you for your so kind comments about my photos. I find that SO encouraging!
