These stones are only visible when the water level in the stream is low.
I love the greenish blues of some of them in amongst the grey ones

The greens in those stones brought to mind a necklace I’d made out of hematite, adventurine, and “aurora borealis” glass beads. (Mostly hematite and adventurine.) My husband is very wary of the bead aisle, and craft stores in general. Hopefully the link below will display a thumbnail, but if not I think it will take you to the file?
Er, and the picture was taken on a hot July day in Kansas. That’s the Mr. holding the necklace up so I can get a picture.
Further adding, that I thought the stones must especially look alike in river and necklace when the river stones are wet.
And I see I’ve followed my habit and mis-spelled the name of the green stones. Aventurine, no d.
Thankyou for the photo Kat. Lovely necklace. Gemstones are such an attraction aren’t they? I have many memories of picking up beautifully coloured stones on the beach or the from a river bed only to see them turn dull once they are dry and loving how the colour returns by pouring some water on them again.
I also remember going with friends in South Africa to what they call “scratch patches” (I think!) which are gemstone traders’ shops where they cover the floor of a room with the stones and you can scrabble amongst them choosing the ones you want and filling little bags which are then weighed at the till. Great fun!
I think these stones in this river bed are surprising colours because I’ve never seen stones this large have such colour in them.
